Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

(1 John 4:18-19 – NIV)

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

Extract from the book “Just Tell Them That I Love Them”

Receive my perfect love
It is not based on your goodness
But mine
It is not fleeting or flawed
Based on your feelings toward me
My love is meant to be received
And passed on
Your love won’t be as perfect as mine
But it will transform you for loving
For having received it

I want my creation to know that I love them
So that they will not fear the calamities and stresses of life
So that they don’t fear death even
What is there to fear if you believe I am God
Don’t you know I am everywhere
Know everything about you
Your life
Your circumstances
I want you to trust me
Not yourself
Know that I am more trustworthy than family
Even your ministers
Your congregation
Your closest friend
I am your closest friend
Whether you accept that or not
That will not change

What benefits do you have in receiving my love
Don’t just believe
I’m trying to get you to know that I love you
In my power
There is nothing I can’t do
I won’t give you everything that you ask for
This is a misunderstanding of most
But my will for all is a life of peace
And joy
And excellence
A life that is a perfect reflection of who I am
Trust that
The results of my love will be
Love
Peace
Joy
And fearlessness

  1. Letting the words of today’s reflection from your book sink in, provides solace as we endure the social and financial upheaval that the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought on our society, in general, and individuals, specifically.

    1. Yes….there’s a need for us to be reminded sometimes that we are not to fear if we are in the care of an Almighty God. The challenge is to hold onto that reality.
